Protest AZ Because of the New Immigration Law?

Question by J: Protest AZ because of the new immigration law?
I think the new immigration law in Arizona is bad enough that AZ should suffer economic consequences. I am for protesting AZ because of the new law. Anyone else have opinions on it? And if you are for protesting AZ, what are some common goods that are made in AZ to avoid buying?
I’m all for enforcing border security, and I understand the problems that cause. I think it is wrong, however, to presume someone is illegal until proven otherwise. Arizona has softened the law by now saying that someone must commit a primary offense before being required to show proof of citizenship. Before that, all that was needed was “resonable cause”, which is what? Looking hispanic? And furthermore, under the law, legal non-citizen immigrants can be detained for not carrying proof of their legality. And, police can be sued by citizens for not enforcing the law “aggressively”, which is crazy.

Of course I’m not for drug related crime.. No one is. But even I (a liberal) think that this goes beyond the reach of what government should be allowed to do, so I was just wondering where the tea party was on this one. I thought that people who responded to this post would understand these smaller details, but I suppose I was mistaken.

Are you aware that the wording of the AZ law is very close to that of the federal law? That was no mistake and was done in order to protect against a possible supreme court decision.

Perhaps you should boycott this whole country then?

  • coldfuse says:

J, could you tell us what specifically you didn’t like when you read the law?

  • jjt says:

sorry just the opposite,. i am all for this bill. its about time some one stood up an protected the people who are suppose to be here

  • I like no one says:

Absolutely not!!! What the heck is wrong with you people? They are trying to apprehend criminals. Illegal aliens ARE CRIMINALS! Do they lock up drunk drivers? Yes! Why because its a crime. Why do you morons want to support crime? Boy cotting Arizona is a horrible idea. Where do you work? Id like to boycott that place for hiring an idiot.

  • Nadia says:

Don’t boycott Arizona Ice Tea..because that’s made in NY, a lot of people are forgetting lol.
Arizona produces a lot of the U.S. copper. I haven’t read up on what exactly they produce product wise…but I won’t be buying any of that. I’m against this.

  • Liberals make me laugh says:

I just booked a vacation there, going to drop some big bucks in that state.

  • John says:

Good for you! Now just boycott any state that enforces kidnapping and murder laws and you’ll be all set!

Seriously, what are you thinking? There is already a federal law that makes it illegal immigration, well, illegal. Up until now, state and local officials would have to hand over information on suspected illegals to a federal agency, who would then ask the suspected illegal to provide his documentation. This law simply allows local authorities to ask for papers instead of passing it on to federal authorities. What you are REALLY upset about is the fact that someone has the nerve to step up and enforce our nation’s laws. You would rather have them step down so that anyone can do whatever they want to with total disregard for the law. You are a proponent of anarchy, and as such, should be treated as a domestic threat. You are a terrorist.

Boycott all you want, but do it from another country, and get the hell out of mine.

Whatever floats your boat! Personally,i congratulate AZ and will do more business from within her borders.Oh,and by the way… i am an immigrant, but a legal one.

  • handsinpants2 says:

AZ is responsible for more oxygen output than any other state. i suggest you hold your breath for now on. that’ll show them.

  • PTL says:

Let’s not forget that there are drug cartels causing violence. What state wouldn’t want to protect their citizens from drugs and violence? No, it is not profiling. The drugs are coming in from where? So you SHOULD be looking for those specific people. DUH! Hey, my son had to do jail time just for not paying his stupid little fines. What makes illegals so special? My city doesn’t have any jail room because of illegals. My sheriff wants them ALL deported. He wants to adopt the AZ law here in OH. It just might happen. I’ll bet that if you carded 10 hispanics 9 of them would be illegal. Not profiling just checking. If they are illegal then they have NO rights. How can we be violating civil rights if they are illegal criminals? Sneak into Mexico without ID and see how long you will last over there. BAM! Ass kicked out! OH, and don’t forget to complain that you have no rights there illegally.

  • x x says:

J I would say we should adopt the immigrations laws of Mexico. Go down there and protest their immigration laws. Take a minute to read Mexico’s laws!!!!

  • nick d says:

so what about ranchers who are getting killed by drug smugglers? What about the fact that Arizona has the highest kidnapping rate in the country per capita because of this problem? What about the victims of these kidnappings? Where’s your bleeding heart for them?If the feds aren’t going to address the problem than we here in Arizona should and will.

    Let me understand your logic…..

If I am stopped by the highway patrol for “reasonable cause”…. say weaving on the road….. Sleepy??…..Drunk??…. Mechanical Difficulty??? ….. the officer should NOT be allowed to check my drivers license because I have given him no reason to suspect I am driving without one…. it is “profiling” me just because I look like I might not know how to drive…..He has no right to run my license and see if there are UNRELATED warrants for my arrest….or the car is stolen…. all of this extra stuff is NOT related to why he stopped me…. so it is none of his business

That is what you are saying about legally stopping a person say for “shop lifting”…. or “jay walking”
and checking to see if that person is here legally ….see if that person has broken OTHER laws

I have been arrested twice because of ‘PROFILING’ and not carrying proper identification….. and I am “pan blanco”…. Once stopped by Sandiego police because I “looked” too young to be out after curfew…. they saw needle tracks on my arm (medical tests at the San Diego Naval Hospital)…. they arrested me as a drug addict…..another time I was arrested by the Navy Shore patrol because I “looked ” military….admitted to being military….but my leave papers were home on the TV set

NOT ALL illegal Aliens are MEXICAN….. we caught 680 illegal aliens who were NOT Mexican in one year….. know who they were… people from countries on our nations terror watch list….POTENTIAL terrorists…. three of the 911 terrorists were here illegally

ALL legal immigrants must pass a medical exam….. to safe guard America’s health…. one epidemic could kill thousands….mostly children , babies and old people….before we could get it under control….. every illegal immigrant puts ALL of us at risk

Their “illegal” status puts illegal aliens at risk too….. they can be blackmailed….put into white slavery…. forced to work as almost slaves…. abused
There was a street gang in Raliegh NC that targeted illegals…..they knew they could not have a bank account so they kept cash….they knew they could not call the police…. they kicked in doors….robbed and raped people…. ALL because they were illegal

I lived in Mexico for a year….I came to America three / four times a month….EVERYTIME I was profiled by US Customs…. searched …. profiling? of course…. 36 invasions of my privacy….. every time I returned to Mexico I was searched….sometimes by the Federales….sometimes by the military….. sometimes by the customs people….sometimes by ALL three…. profiled? of course

Get rid of this chip on your shoulder….if you are not guilty…. you have nothing to fear

EDIT There are no packs of police thugs roaming the streets checking everyone who looks Mexican…..so they can throw them in jail or out of America….. First not enough room in the jails…..half the population of Tucson is Latino and half of them are illegal…. I do not think law abiding ILLEGALS will have any problems either…. local police need their help catching REAL criminals …. This is NOT wholesale racism….. this is just another tool to help make Arizona safe for everyone
